The Role
We are looking for a visionary and experienced Design Head to lead our growing design team. You will be responsible for setting the strategic direction for all design initiatives, fostering a culture of creativity and innovation, and ensuring that design excellence is embedded throughout the organization.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the design team, providing mentorship, coaching, and professional development opportunities.
- Develop and implement the overall design vision and strategy, aligning it with the company’s business goals.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders across various departments (e.g., product, marketing, engineering) to ensure design is integrated seamlessly into all aspects of the business.
- Oversee the design process for all products, services, and marketing materials.
- Champion user-centered design principles and ensure a focus on user experience (UX) across all touchpoints.
- Establish and maintain design standards, style guides, and brand guidelines to ensure design consistency.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest design trends, technologies, and best practices.
- Identify and implement new design tools and software to enhance the team’s capabilities.
- Manage the design budget and resources effectively.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with external design agencies or vendors (if applicable).
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that celebrates creativity and innovation.
- Represent the design department in leadership meetings and contribute to strategic decision-making.
Qualifications
- Minimum X years of experience as a Design Director, Head of Design, or a similar leadership role.
- Proven track record of success in building and leading high-performing design teams.
- Strong understanding of user-centered design (UCD) principles and methodologies.
- Extensive experience in all aspects of the design process, from user research to visual design and prototyping.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and inspire others.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, delegate, and provide constructive feedback.
- Strategic thinking and business acumen with a clear understanding of how design can drive business value.
- A keen eye for design trends and a passion for creating innovative and aesthetically pleasing experiences.
Bonus Points
- Experience in a similar industry to your company (a plus).
- Experience managing a team of designers with diverse specializations (e.g., UX/UI design, graphic design, product design).
- Proven ability to develop and manage design budgets.
- Experience with design thinking workshops and facilitation techniques.
- Excellent presentation skills and the ability to effectively communicate design concepts to non-designers.
