The Role
We’re looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Database Developer to join our team. You will be responsible for the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of our critical databases. You’ll work closely with developers and analysts to ensure our databases meet all business needs and function efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement efficient database structures and schemas to support application functionality.
- Write, optimize, and execute complex SQL queries for data retrieval, manipulation, and reporting.
- Ensure data integrity and security by implementing access controls, backup procedures, and data encryption (if applicable).
- Collaborate with software developers to integrate new databases with applications seamlessly.
- Perform routine database maintenance, including updates, patches, and performance tuning.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues promptly to minimize downtime.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation for database schemas, stored procedures, and best practices.
- Assist in data migration and transformation projects to support evolving business needs.
- Support data analytics and reporting efforts by providing well-structured and optimized datasets.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest database technologies and trends to recommend improvements and ensure our databases leverage the newest functionalities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- X years of experience in database development and administration.
- Strong understanding of relational database management systems (RDBMS) concepts (normalization, data modeling, indexing).
- Expertise in SQL (Structured Query Language) for data manipulation and retrieval.
- Experience with database administration tools and utilities.
- Familiarity with data security best practices and access control mechanisms.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Bonus Points
- Experience with specific database platforms (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
- Experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra).
- Experience with data warehousing and business intelligence concepts.
- Experience with data replication and high availability solutions.
- Experience with cloud-based database platforms (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database).
- Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Perl) for database automation tasks.
